A certified physical educator is legally qualified to provide adapted physical education for students who require specialized physical education as defined in the IEP. The teacher implements the state curriculum, as well as other appropriate guides and assigns work geared toward each student's needs and abilities. S/he is involved in the students' behavioral, social, and physical development, helping the students adapt in social situations and engage in socially acceptable behavior. The PE teacher may also manages the behavior of students to create a safe physical and emotional classroom environment. The PE teacher must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis and demonstrate the ability to utilize its methods.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaches classes at the elementary, middle or high level, in physical education.
Prepares, adapts, and delivers instructional material.
Develops suitable curricula and effective teaching methods based on assessment of students' needs.
Evaluates students' academic and behavioral progress and participates in review and revision of IEP, as appropriate.
Prepare individualized education program goals in consultation with parents and IEP team members.
Designs instruction, both individual and small group, which parallels the general education curriculum for PE.
Creates and maintains student records, and prepares reports relative to the work.
Assists other professional staff in developing Functional Behavioral Analyses and Behavior Intervention Plans based on Positive Behavioral Supports.
Participates in teacher training, as required. The teacher shall also maintain open communication with supervisory and administrative staff who provide support and guidance throughout all aspects of the program.
Manage gymnasium organization.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
Must at least have a Bachelor’s degree.
Hold a current and valid Maryland teaching certificate in Physical Education appropriate for his/her assignment.
A skill set that includes the ability to interface in a professional manner with Linwood staff, parents, school system personnel and other professionals.
Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
