Linwood Center is currently hiring an Executive Director, The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of Linwood Center, Inc., and, within the limits established by the Board of Directors, is granted the authority to provide leadership in the development and implementation of the means required to achieve the goals set forth by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission as aligned with the organization’s financial objectives. The Executive Director shall ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress. The Executive Director shall provide leadership to develop and implement appropriate programs and plans to ensure the organization is fully compliant with all applicable laws and regulations, and represents the highest possible standards of ethical conduct in all regards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Strategic

  • Act as a strategic leader to senior executive leadership team and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization
  • Responsible for leading Linwood in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors
  • Assess and evaluate the overall performance of organization in response to metrics sought by the Board of Directors.
  • Provide insight and recommendations to both short-term and long-term growth plan of organization.
  • Work in concert with the financial leader to ensure that the organization’s plan for sustainability, growth and expansion is strategic, purposeful and attainable.

Student/Resident Achievement, Stakeholder Satisfaction, Public Relations and Employee Performance

  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of significant developments and trends in the disability services field, including but not limited to: autism, residential services (children’s and adult), school programs, adult day supports, and personal support programs.
  • Ensure, through data, that all programs contain the elements of “best practices” in the field and students and adult program participants are experiencing positive outcomes.
  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
  • Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to external agencies, organizations, and the general public.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of Linwood’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with governmental agencies and other professional, civic and private organizations
  • Ensure the effective and appropriate recruitment, employment, and separation of all personnel, including paid staff, temporary staff and volunteers.
  • In concert with the Human Resources leader, ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in place and applied.
  • Encourage staff and volunteer development and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the entirety of the organization.
  • Ensure that the activities, objectives and successes of the organization are widely publicized throughout served communities and referral sources as part of an overall marketing strategy and program.
  • Promote active participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work.

Financial Health of the Organization

  • Provide effective financial management and develop and maintain sound financial practices.
  • Work with the staff and Executive Committee to prepare a budget and ensure that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
  • Work with the finance department to maintain a coordinated, consistent and timely forecasting process for all organization expenses and revenue.
  • Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
  • Oversee private fundraising activities in support of Linwood operations.
  • Jointly, with the President and Secretary of the Board of Directors, conduct official correspondence of the organization, and jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents.

Compliance with Regulations and Continuous Quality Improvement

  • Ensure that official documents are maintained and ensure compliance with federal, state and local guidelines and regulations.
  • Ensure that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place.
  • Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.
  • Ensure that the Board is fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors impacting the health of the organization.
  • Oversee all programs of the organization, including the residential operations, the administration of policy and procedures and the service referral processes, to create and sustain a safe environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all procurement laws and regulations while meeting organization needs for systems and services.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • May perform other duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, however, a Master’s Degree in Business, Education, and/or a related field is preferred.
  • Must have at least 10 years of senior management experience with a track record of proven effective leadership
  • Successful track record of providing executive-level leadership over large and complex health and human service programs
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach all levels of staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and create and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Experience working within or in close partnership with government agencies responsible for non-public educational services, residential programs for both adults and children, including the Maryland autism waiver program, the Maryland Department of Health and the Maryland Department of Human Services is preferred.
  • Knowledge of potential wrap-around supports for families and persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
