Building Families for Children, Inc. (BFC) is a faith-based family services nonprofit agency located in Columbia, Maryland. Our mission is to share the love of Christ by helping Maryland’s most vulnerable children thrive in families. BFC is hiring a new full-time Executive Director to lead the organization, after a century of serving our community. BFC currently operates a State contracted Treatment Foster Care program, a volunteer-driven hosting program (Safe Families for Children®), Therapeutic Family Services and Community Care initiatives.
The Executive Director is responsible for leading BFC within the context of the mission, vision, values, goals and policies of the organization as established by the Board of Trustees. Providing leadership, the Executive Director works with the Board of Trustees to establish the strategic imperatives for the organization and to raise the resources needed to sustain the programs that are making a difference in the lives of Maryland’s most vulnerable children and families. Given the nature and importance of the work of the agency in helping children and families heal and rise above the negative effects of trauma and poverty, the Executive Director will maintain a supportive and mission-focused culture among the staff, board and broader BFC community.
Finally, the Executive Director will provide the oversight of the agency’s business functions ensuring compliance with legal and financial standards and developing strategic partnerships with philanthropic and community partners who are aligned with BFC’s mission, vision and values. In carrying out these priorities, the Executive Director is responsible for establishing the fundraising and marketing plan; ensuring that the staff and Board of Trustees are contributing to the goals set forth in this plan and inviting others to partner with BFC. Setting the tone and direction of the organization, the Executive Director is looked to for Christ-centered leadership, consistent with the agency’s Statement of Faith and for regular communication of the agency’s goals and priorities.
At least five years of management experience including non-profit administration, human services, and/or child and family services. A Social Work degree and LCSW-C license, or a licensed Psychologist or Psychiatrist, preferred.
Applicants must possess the ability to work a flexible schedule with some evening and weekend hours and have reliable transportation.
