Between the Lines: A Liberation Book Club meets twice a month via Zoom from 6:30 – 8:00pm. In this book club, we will focus on reading seminal works by women of color, Queer & Trans folks, and stories of a new world. We are hoping that this book club can both act as a source of support for the community during this time of crisis and also help provide a source of community action building focusing on sharing diverse stories.

This month join us in virtual conversation on powerful black feminist, Audre Lorde, and her book Zami: A New Spelling of My Name. Lorde writes a coming of age story of life in 1950’s Harlem as a black lesbian and explores the power of black femme relationships in shaping her life. This book is about deep love for women in the midst of the hustle of New York in the 50s, poetry, sensuality and longing for an unknown home. A story settled in Lorde’s queerness and authenticity, Lorde defies literary genres in Zami by merging biography, history, and myth; unearthing a new storytelling genre of its own. Join us in discussion of this powerful biomythography.
