ACS offers a variety of education and training programs designed to help our members meet the mission of their organization. Joan Driessen serves as Coordinator and volunteers serve on an Advisory Board that oversees the development of these programs.
Hot Topics: This series offers informal presentations and discussion of new products, services and initiatives of interest to human service providers. Upcoming programs include:

Training Sessions: These skill development sessions are designed to support the non-profit staff in better achieving the mission of their organization. Upcoming programs include:
- The Supervision Series: Skill-building Sessions for New and Experienced Managers – runs 4 consecutive Thursday mornings from 9/18 – 10/9
- Spanish for Human Service Providers – runs 6 consecutive Friday mornings from 10/3 – 11/7
Board Development Programs: ACS is committed to supporting the important role that Boards play in realizing the missions of the organizations they serve through our Board Development Programs.
- Board Development Institute offers a series of specialized on-site training sessions that can be best delivered during Board meetings or retreats. These 30-60 minute presentations are available in the areas of governance, fundraising, strategic planning, organization oversight and succession planning. They are designed to ensure that all Board Members are well-grounded in the skills they need to be maximally effective.
- The Board Bank, a joint effort of The Volunteer Center Serving Howard County, the Association of Community Services, and Leadership Howard County, connects individuals with volunteer leadership positions on local non-profit and governmental boards expressing a need for their specific skills, talents and interests. Information from the forms below will be used to help make the match between interested individuals and organizations.

- The Gavel Group, sponsored by ACS, meets quarterly providing Board Presidents with a forum in which to share their experiences as well as offering valuable educational and networking opportunities.
