About ACS

Who We Are

The Association of Community Services (ACS) is a dynamic network of human services providers and advocates focused on serving families in Howard County.

What We Do

ACS advances human services in Howard County by offering organizations and individuals the information, support, training, education and connections they need to:

  • operate successfully
  • provide services more efficiently
  • inform the community about their services
  • address pressing human services issues

ACS members come from every area of Howard County's human services community. They include:

  • government agencies
  • non-profit organizations
  • for-profit organizations
  • faith-based organizations
  • individuals


Strategic Plan 2004-2006

Mission - To advance human services in Howard County.

Vision - Howard County is a model of excellence in human services.

Values - ACS believes:

  • That all residents of Howard County have the right to be valued, respected, and included in the life of the community.
  • That the highest possible quality of life in our community depends upon a strong human services system.
  • That the best human services result from collaboration, efficiency, effectiveness and the maximum utilization of resources.
  • In building trusting relationships that are caring, collaborative, ethical, forward thinking, inclusive, professional, reliable and  supportive.

Strategic Goals - ACS will:

  1. Be a resource to members in achieving their missions.
  2. Identify and communicate unmet human service needs to elected officials, community leaders, funders, and others.
  3. Partner with appropriate organizations to ensure the prompt development of an effective, comprehensive Human Services Plan for Howard County.

  4. Provide leadership in the development of initiatives that advance positive change in human services.
  5. Advocate for adequate funding of human services.


Funding

The Association's principal sources of income are dues, sponsorships, events, foundation grants and in-kind donations.
