Developing public policy priorities with members; then advocating for them is central to the ACS mission.  The Public Policy Committee, made up of representatives from very diverse sectors of the membership, considers issues and recommends priorities to the ACS Board of Directors. 

Advocacy occurs in the community, with elected officials, locally, regionally, and at the state level.

ACS invites elected officials to meet with members at General Membership Meetings.  In election years, it also hold candidates' forums, often in collaboration with the League of Women Voters. 

Regularly monitoring legislation for opportunities to testify is an ongoing charge of the Public Policy Committee.

In partnership with the Horizon Foundation, ACS sponsors the Policy Analysis Center to help conduct research and gather data to advance the policy issues its members identify.  The Center is guided by a steering committee and its activities can be viewed at
